What Is Digital Scrapbooking?
Digital Scrapbooking is relatively new to some, however I have been
creating digital layouts for 3 years now. Digital scrapbooking is also the perfect companion to your digital camera! Digital scrapbooking is scrapbooking using your computer and a graphics program to layer your photos, papers and embellishments to get a complete scrapbook layout to be printed at any size you choose.
Why Digital?
There are so many benifits to having your scrapbook albums created digitally.
Digital scrapbook albums take up much less space, therefore you can fit many more albums on your shelf. Your layouts can be printed for display in your home to be framed, used as calendars, or even magnets. The possibilities are endless!
Your children can look at them over and over again without the worry of them pulling off the embellishments or leaving their little fingerprints on the photos. Digital albums can be printed in various sizes, as large as 12x12 or as small as a matchbook and any size in between. And you can easliy carry your albums with you to show them off!
Your photos will remain as they are, since I will be working with copies. You don't have to worry about your photos being harmed. Your photos can also be edited and corrected, and any changes can be made before they are printed. Please do not send original photos, negatives or slides as I can not be responsible for any loss or damage during shipping.
Many items can be included in your layouts. I can use photos, memorabilia, 3-D elements such as jewelry or heirlooms can also be scanned into digital files and used on your layouts.
The best part about digital scrapbooks is that I will have your whole album backed up on cd/dvd so you never have to fear that your precious memories will be completely lost should your album ever be destroyed. Just order another album!
How Do I Order A Custom Album?
Use the Contact me page and send me an email to get started.
Let me know what products or services you are interested in. Take a peek at the gallery and make note of what you like and dislike so I can get an idea of what appeals most to you. We will then have a consultation, either in person if you live locally, or by phone/email so we can discuss your project in depth. At this point, you must pay at least 50% of the cost of the product or service before I begin. I can accept payment through Paypal.com or you may send a check or money order. Please email me if you choose the latter so I can give you an address where it can be mailed.
Next you will need to send me your photos, either by email, a third party upload site, or by regular postal mail. I will also need a completed Page Planner if one is needed for your project. It will include dates, names, and any specific writing or journaling you would like included on your page. I will also scan in any photos, memorabilia, etc. that need scanning and organize them to start bringing the pages together so I can start creating your project. (There is no extra fee for scanning if you are purchasing an album.)
Creating your scapbook pages and album takes the most time as each project is completely custom made just for you. I will design each page around your photos, making one of a kind layouts to illustrate the story of your life.
When I have completed your digital layouts, I will send you a link to a web gallery so you may view your images and approve them before the printing process. All minor changes and correction of mistakes can be made at this point free of charge. More extensive changes and complete re-designs can be made for an additional charge.
To ensure the best quality, I will send all of my designs to an off-site printing service. The printed layouts will be sent to me so I can check them for the best quality and prepare them to be shipped or delivered to you.
That seems like a lot of money for an album page! Why are your prices so high?
Our prices make more sense when they are broken down into the distinct phases required to produce each album page. Keep in mind that ALL of these phases are INCLUDED in the per-page price.
Orders and Planning:
I am a stay-at-home wife and mom of 2 and my time with them is more precious than anything. There may be multiple conversations to ensure that I completely understand my client's plans regarding their album project. I work closely with each client individually, discussing their project in depth, and assisting them as needed in getting copies of their photos, etc. to me.
Organization and Setup:
Once I receive a client's photos I spend some time organizing the files. I may also perform basic photo enhancements or corrections such as removing red eye, adjusting color, cropping and/or resizing photos.
Page Design:
This is the most time-consuming part of the process. Each page is individually custom-designed to best showcase the photos it contains. Your photos inspire the mainpage design. Background paper colors, patterns, and textures, photo mattes, borders, word art, embellishments, and journaling are all drawn from the colors, patterns, and emotional feel of the photos on each page. Every choice is carefully made for the sole purpose of drawing the viewer's eye to the photo, the most important element on the page. Considerable care is taken with each photo and element to create a beautiful album full of unforgettable memories.
Printing and Assembly:
Album pages are sent to a professional printer and returned to me to be carefully reviewed for assurance in quality and to make sure that the color of the prints are up to high standards. Album pages are then trimmed to size, where necessary, placed in their proper sequence, and assembled into an album. (Photobooks come from the printer pre-assembled).
File Preparation & Duplication:
Every album page is preserved in the original .PSD file produced during the design process. I will preserve and store the original files should you need to have another album printed in the future.
Shipping and Handling:
I absorb all of the costs associated with the shipping and handling of your project, except the actual cost of the postage. This includes the time I spend packaging your project and getting it to the delivery service, as well as the cost of all packaging materials.
Equipment and Supplies:
Lastly, but oh, so important -- I could not work with my clients to produce heirloom-quality digital album pages without the investments I've made in computers, software packages, albums, scrapbook kits, papers and elements. Some of which are designed by myself, others by many other gracious and talented digital designers.
